US education has a lot to offer to international students in terms of an educational experience that is rewarding both academically and personally. There are over 4,000 accredited colleges and universities in the US; and you will find a wide variety of higher education institutions. However, there are mainly four different types of institutions in the US - State Universities, Private Universities, Community Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Colleges. In general, colleges are usually small and offer only undergraduate degrees whereas universities offer graduate degrees as well. Some institutes are specialized in degree programs in a group of closely related subject areas like technology, fashion, art and design, and so on.

The counselors at Focus could brief you on educational opportunities in any of the above institutions, be it undergraduate study, graduate study, post-doctoral training, specialized professional study, or short-term study and help you for the admission process in an easy and thorough way. For instance, admission requirements for dentistry, medicine, nursing, veterinary medicine, and law are substantially different from those of colleges/universities in other countries and other subject areas offered within the US itself and applying for study in these subject areas can be daunting.

Focus is the official representative for many US universities and colleges and there is a high chance of finding your course of choice in one of these universities and colleges easily. So, we ask you to consult us and get benefited without having to spend your valuable time in college/university search. Even if you don't find any of these colleges offering your desired study program, we encourage you to contact us - we assure you that we make your college/university search easy.

Costs of Study

Though studying in the US is very expensive, it is well worth your investment. Costs range from about US$ 15,000 to US$ 40,000 per year for tuition, fees, accommodations, books, health insurance, and living costs. The cost of study depends on location as the cost of living varies from one state to another state. For example, living in the states like Washington, California, and areas around New York is comparatively expensive. So, for any specific college or university costing information, please contact us.

International students can work on-campus, which might reduce their costs of study. But, it is not often easy to get a job. So, you should not count on it while estimating the costs for your study. Especially, there is shortage of jobs in states like Alabama, Texas, Florida, etc.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

A few universities in the US offer some form of financial assistance to international students in the form of scholarships, fellowships, loans, grants and/or employment. However, it is very competitive to get such assistance and students are encouraged to apply early. Strong academics, good performance on standardized tests, and good extra curricular qualifications help increase the chance of winning financial assistance or scholarships. Besides institutional scholarships, there are many resources international students may use for information on funding their US education and Focus can help you reach these resources.

Admissions

Those who wish to pursue an undergraduate study program of a US college or a university must have passed 10+2 or equivalent level of study as the minimum requirement for admission. International students may also be required to submit the test scores of the standardized tests such as the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and others. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required to enter a Master's program. Major-specific admission tests like the GRE (Graduate Record Examination), and GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) are also among admission criteria for a Master's program. Besides, colleges and universities may have individually set entrance requirements. The individual requirements vary from institution to institution. A college or university may require all or part of these - Academic credentials, letters of recommendation, a proof of necessary and sufficient fund for the study period, a letter of motivation, admission essays, etc, to accompany the application for admission. Depending on universities or colleges, international students may or may not be charged an application fee.

Some universities and colleges have rolling system of admission whereas others have set deadlines for submitting application documents. So, act early before it is late and contact us for a fast processing.
