The Education System in the Republic of Cyprus has four stages: pre-primary, primary, secondary and higher/tertiary. Higher education is available in Cyprus at state owned institutions (The Cyprus University) and private third level institutions. Cyprus Government policy regarding higher education aims to fulfill the local needs for higher education and to establish Cyprus as a regional educational and research centre, a hub for international scholars and students alike. The general aim of Education in Cyprus is the mental, emotional spiritual and physical evelopment of students, and the provision of knowledge and skills necessary for the continuation of their studies or their initiation into the socio-economic life of the country.


Cyprus education is also aimed at the preparation of citizens who abide by the universal
values of freedom, democracy and justice. Apart from the public schools, there is a number of private schools at Primary, Secondary and Tertiary level whose existence and functioning are subject to the existing Legislation of the Cyprus Republic for Private Education.

 

Non-Cypriots or international students may study at a college in Cyprus, for which a high school leaving certificate is required. Most of the Colleges teach in the English language and are based on the American or English Education System and offer various study programs. Cypriot Colleges offer 2-year Diplomas, 4-year Bachelors Degrees and some also offer Masters Degree courses.

The cost per academic year is based on the number of courses that you will register for each semester. The estimated average cost for the undergraduate programs for one Academic Year ranges from approximately €4,375 to €8,000.

In addition to tuition and fees, you must budget for living expenses such as the cost of accommodation, food, travel and books. It is estimated that a student should budget for an additional €4,250 to €5,000 for each academic year, but personal expenses will vary to each student's particular lifestyle.

 

Financial Aid/Scholarships

 

The objective of the Financial Aid Program at universities/colleges of Cyprus is to provide financial assistance to students who need aid in order to begin or complete their studies in Cyprus.


Need Grants are awarded to students and are based mainly on substantial financial need, regardless of academic performance. The amount of the grant provided depends upon the student's need for assistance, but grants usually amount to less than one third of the tuition and fees of the semester. Students interested in this type of grant must complete the "Financial Aid Application Form" and submit it to the respective department of universities/colleges.


It must be noted, however, that the funds for Financial Aid are provided by universities/colleges and are limited. Students and their families are expected to finance their education and Financial Aid should be considered only as supplemental assistance.

 

Admissions

 

Every applicants who are intending to study in Cyprus must have completed a secondary level education or the equivalent of twelve years of schooling to get admission in the universities of Cyprus for undergraduate level or Bachelors level, similarly the students must have to complete the undergraduate level education or Bachelors level Education to get admission for the post graduate level.


Application forms and other information about admission requirements for the universities or colleges of Cyprus can be obtained from the Office of Admissions of respective college or university.
For the being admitted in the universities of Cyprus you must have a complete application form, official or certified transcripts of Secondary for undergraduate or Bachelor for postgraduate level and evidences of knowledge of English. These are the basic requirements that are asked by most of the universities. Beside, a different university might have a different demand of requirements for considering you to get admission in their college or universities.
