New Zealand is famous for its amazing scenery, which more than 20,000 international students from around the world enjoy while studying here in different levels of education. It has an international reputation as a provider of quality education. All major education providers are registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), so you can be sure that you are studying for an approved qualification that has been assessed to ensure that it is high quality. Some private training establishments don’t use NZQA qualifications – you should check and make sure their courses are suitable for you. New Zealand offers a safe and stimulating learning environment, which provides excellent study opportunities, and support services for international students. Courses are available for academic, professional and vocational studies at universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, secondary schools and private training establishments. At polytechnics and institutes of technology you can study for a certificate, diploma or degree. These institutions offer more practical and vocational courses. At colleges of education you can study for a degree in education and teaching. A university bachelor's degree usually takes three to four years. Most degree structures give you the opportunity of combining your 'major' subject with supporting subjects known as 'minor' subjects. After you have a bachelor's degree, you can study for a post-graduate qualification such as a graduate diploma, master's degree or doctorate. If you already have an undergraduate degree from your home country and your English is good, you may be able to enrol in a post-graduate programme in New Zealand.

Students who wish to go to University but do not want to go to secondary school because they may have already completed schooling in their home country and/or may consider themselves too old can qualify for University by taking a Foundation Studies course at one of the Universities who offer these courses. Foundation Studies is a one year course and start dates may be in March, April, July and September depending on the University. The courses are scheduled to finish shortly before the beginning of the next University semester so successful students can proceed directly into their Bachelor degree studies.

Because of a great interest of New Zealanders in people from other cultures, international students feel more than welcome while going to an institution here for study.

New Zealand offers a progressive education to help students take a leading place in the exciting global environment, with many New Zealanders working internationally or involved in collaborative research with many prestigious overseas universities. There are many state-of-the-art facilities, and with many institutions spearheading several new technological developments, students have access to more advanced technology than they could wish for. As a result, New Zealand produces top graduates who can take their place with confidence in the international arena.

Combining the benefits of a developed country with the charm of a quiet and peaceful countryside, New Zealand offers some distinct advantages over other countries as a destination for education. One advantage is that you can learn excellent English, as it is the everyday language of communication here.

Costs of Study

For undergraduate courses, the tuition fee ranges from NZ $ 10,000 to 18,000 per year and from NZ $ 14,000 to $ 24,500 per year for postgraduate courses. The approximate annual living expenses are about NZ $ 10,000 - 12,000, which includes accommodation as well as other daily expenses.
However, the expenses are different for different people depending on the lifestyles and this is just a rough idea.

International students enrolled in a tertiary programme of study are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during session and full-time (40 hours) during summer holidays. Students can earn approximately between NZ$ 10 and NZ$ 12 per hour from part time jobs. Part time jobs can earn part of total costs of study, but it is not that easy to get one. International students who have graduates from a course in New Zealand that would gain the Skilled Migrant Category may apply for a six month open work permit. Eligible student's partner may apply for a work permit, valid for the duration of the study course.

Financial Aid/Scholarships

Funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Education, the Education New Zealand administers scholarship programmes. New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) and New Zealand International Undergraduate Fees Scholarships (NZIUFS) are incoming awards for international students. New Zealand Undergraduate Study Abroad Awards (NZUSAA) and New Zealand Postgraduate Study Abroad Awards (NZPSAA) are Outgoing Scholarships for Domestic and International Students. Some universities have scholarship in order to attract and assist International students to pursue their studies in New Zealand. There are other scholarships and funding resources for international students to study in New Zealand. Just contact us for further information.

Admissions

New Zealand universities and colleges have their own academic requirements for admission into a course of study, which may vary from one level of education to another. Besides academic requirements, you should meet the English language proficiency through the scores of IELTS or TOEFL. Generally, applications for admission to universities should include certified copies of the highest secondary school certificates received and official academic records of any tertiary study undertaken (e.g. university, polytechnic, technical college). The basic level of admission is the same across the New Zealand university system. However, individual universities may require higher standards for admission to courses, which are in high demand.
