Singapore is the smallest nation in the south-east of Asia. Singapore has the highest rate of literacy in the world. The country has
four national languages but English has been adopted as the medium of

and the other 2 private universities. Other than these universities, there

international educational institutions which have set up their centers
in Singapore. The education in Singapore is managed by the Ministry of
Education. The ministry directs the education policy, controls the administration
and development of state schools and maintains a supervisory and advisory
role in private schools.
In current years Singapore has developed as the preferred study abroad

Costs of Study
School or Tuition Fees may vary according to type of course and type
of school (private or public). The cost per academic year is depended
on individuals’ course. The estimated average cost for the Higher
education for one Academic Year ranges from approximately 3,125 to 18,750
(Cost in US$). The cost includes description of tuition & exam fee.
The cost and standard of living in Singapore is among the highest in Asia.
However, as compared to countries in western continents, the cost of living
is relatively low. Basic expenses such as food and transportation are
economical. An international student in Singapore spends an average of
S$600 upwards a month on living expenses. This amount varies, depending
on the individual's lifestyle. There is a wide range of hostels and accommodation
available for foreign students in Singapore. Depending on the locality
and room type, rental rates range from S$250 to S$500 per month. The estimated
average cost for Food ranges from approximately S$250 - S$500 per month.
Transportation and others ranges approximately
S$100 - S$200 per month.
The international students in private institutions are not allowed to
work in Singapore at all, unless their course of study requires that they
fulfill a certain number of hours as part of their curriculum.
Financial Aid/Scholarships
A variety of scholarships and grants are available from different organizations as support for overseas students aspiring to study in Singapore. These grants and scholarships can support you financially. Often, this depends on the country of origin of the overseas students. Some of the grants and scholarships are:
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) DUO FELLOWSHIP
This fellowship is offered by Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs once
a year. It is meant for students applying for exchange with partner universities
in ASEM countries. For a list of countries and more information, please
refer to www.mfa.gov.sg Please take note that Norway and Switzerland are
not ASEM member countries.
City University Hong Kong Financial Aid
HK$5,000 (Approx. S$1,000) is awarded base on financial needs.
Citibank Study Abroad Loan
The Citibank Study Abroad Loan with a quantum of up to S$10,000 is available
to full-time SMU undergraduates. The loan is interest-bearing. However,
during the student's course of study with SMU, interest will be paid by
SMU. Repayment of the loan can be made by equal monthly installments one
month after graduation date.
Deloitte & Touche International Exchange Scholarship
Deloitte & Touche has setup an Exchange Scholarship Fund to assist
needy local full-time BAcc students to fulfill their wishes of participating
in an exchange programme overseas. Three scholarships are awarded annually,
each valued at S$4,000.

Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation
Scholarship
The Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JCCI) Singapore Foundation
offers a one-year, fully sponsored, no-bond scholarship to Waseda University

Admissions
Applications are accepted all year round by the universities and are subject to the availability of vacancy. Each university and polytechnic has different entry requirements for different levels of admission. The general trend observed is that students prefer to study in Singapore from the Pre-University level and then move on the university level of education. Alternatively, the students can directly apply to the Universities or Polytechnics.
Undergraduate Studies
Most of the universities/colleges recruits international undergraduates
from countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Hong Kong,
China and Mauritius. International students interested in pursuing undergraduate
studies in the universities/colleges must have completed at least 12 years
of general education in order to be considered for admission. Application
for admission opens from October to March.
Post Graduate Studies
Universities/colleges of Singapore offers graduate programs leading to
the award of the degrees of Master and Doctor of Philosophy as well as
postgraduate diplomas. There are two types of graduate degree programs
- by research and by coursework and dissertation.
